What are the benefits of UMTS TDD CDMA vs CDMA2000
1X
UMTS TDD is built to support high speed data rates
in the excess 2Mbps, whereas CDMA 2000 1X networks
are primarily for voice and can only support up to
153Kbps of data.
Thus performance in data applications is more
superior on UMTS TDD and it is also possible to
leverage on VoIP technologies which are supported by
the UMTS TDD system.
How will I power
MyNetcom when I am out of
the office or my home?
MyNetcom connectivity kit comes with a Rechargeable
Lithium battery which, will last for up to 3 hours.
This means that you can stay for three hours without
power with MyNetcom connected to your laptop or
desktop. Netcom also offers a PCMCIA version of
MyNetcom which will not require to be recharged.
Can
MyNetcom be used for multiple
applications such as a Cybercafé or the Corporate
Enterprise?
No. MyNetcom is targeted at the individual customer
- PCs and Laptop users. Netcom offers NetcomVSAT as
an Enterprise solution for multiple applications.
Why does Netcom impose data allowances with
their service plans?
Like other service providers, Netcom Africa
has a small proportion of very heavy users. This
group of less than 5 per cent currently consumes a
majority of the total images/New/gallery/events bandwidth being
shared by all users. It is therefore necessary for
us to protect the service quality for the other 95
per cent of users by establishing and implementing
bandwidth control for those who are affecting the
quality of service for the rest. We are able to do
this within the scope of our current and previous
Terms
and Conditions.
Towards this goal, MyNetcom service will be
ENFORCING data allowances (maximum allowance of data
downloaded per month) on all of our existing
subscription plans. When your data allowance has
been exceeded, the user will notice a reduction
(throttle) of their download speeds. Most
subscribers will NOT notice a difference as their
normal usage is well below the typical data caps for
each subscription plan. Data top ups to increase
allowances are available for purchase.
