Why does
Netcom impose data allowances with their service plans?
Like other service
providers, Netcom Africa has a small proportion of very
heavy users. This group of less than 5 per cent currently
consumes a majority of the total internet bandwidth
being shared by all users. It is therefore necessary
for us to protect the service quality for the other
95 per cent of users by establishing and implementing
bandwidth control for those who are affecting the quality
of service for the rest. We are able to do this within
the scope of our current and previous
Terms
and Conditions.
Towards this goal, MyNetcom service will be ENFORCING
data allowances (maximum allowance of data downloaded
per month) on all of our existing subscription plans.
When your data allowance has been exceeded, the user
will notice a reduction (throttle) of their download
speeds. Most subscribers will NOT notice a difference
as their normal usage is well below the typical data
caps for each subscription plan. Data top ups to increase
allowances are available for purchase.
